Well, maybe social pressure works after all. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports their local Birther, Joe Montgomery, wants to withdraw his objection to Obama’s candidacy. Here is a few excerpts:
The Manhattan man who posed a formal challenge to President Barack Obama’s place on the Kansas general election ballot Friday requested immediate withdrawal of the appeal due to an avalanche of criticism.
The Kansas Objections Board had taken the complaint filed by Joe Montgomery under advisement on Thursday, pending requests for official copies of Obama’s birth records. The ballot issue was tied to Montgomery’s assertion Obama wasn’t a qualified candidate for president because of his citizenship status and that of his father.
“There has been a great deal of animosity and intimidation directed not only at me, but at people around me,” Montgomery said in the formal withdrawal request to Secretary of State Kris Kobach. “I don’t wish to burden anyone with more of this negative reaction.”
Kobach, Attorney General Derek Schmidt and Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer had planned to convene the state board on Monday to consider new documentary evidence regarding Montgomery’s claim that Obama should be dropped from ballots. Kay Curtis, spokeswoman for the secretary of state, said there was a tentative plan to conduct the meeting Monday. The procedure remains unclear, but it may be necessary for the board to formally accept Montgomery’s decision.
“This is kind of unprecedented,” Curtis said.

Unprecedented? You can certainly say that again. When was the last time a Birther had any consideration for the people who have to listen to his or her incessant, mindless babbling about two citizen parents and pixels??? Never. There were surely some “You’re friggin’ nuts!” type comments in all that animosity and negative reaction he received, and Wonder of Wonders!, Montgomery listened. When has that ever happened in Birtherdom??? Again, never.
Whatever Montgomery has, I hope it is contagious. If it is, I think we all ought to raise enough money to send him on vacation in Laguna Niguel, and hire Princess Miki Booth as his driver.

So who do you think’s going to be getting Christmas cards from Dr. Montgomery this year, the ones who talked him into this mess or the ones who talked him out of it?

Mitt Romney’s campaign may be witless, but it can read negative reaction. Mitt is already taking heat for his clueless bloviating on the reaction to the video defaming the Prophet Muhammad, pbuh. So, they don’t want the near universal ridicule for this ridiculous move, but they don’t want to PO the lunatic fringe that Mitt needs to turn out for him.
So, the word came down to sit down and STFU. Since, this was a caper designed by the campaign, it was easy for him to do so. Had Montgomery been a “true believer” with advanced ODS, no way would he have stood down.

I agree with you, MB, that Joe got the word from Kobach or others in the Rmoney camp to sit down and STFU. But Montgomery IS A “true believer” with ODS. Just look at his rants on FReep and — before his recent banishment — at Hannity.com.
He’ll be back. Under a different screen name. He’ll be back.

Apparently, birther lawyer Orly Taitz will be there to argue the case anyway and present her evidence:

I doubt Montgomery experienced any epiphany as a result of the public backlash, particularly in the academic community in which he works. For several years Montgomery has been a prolific writer of birther poo, posting at Hannity.com as “kdsb” and at Free Republic as “edge919.”
Naw, he’s just gone underground because he was shamed by his colleagues at KSU. Imagine stepping outside the birther bubble and, gasp!, discovering that the rest of the world does not subscribe to your wacko fringe theories. It’s gotta hurt.

Hi GeorgetownJD!!!
I saw that article at Fogbow, but I already busted KDSB/Edge 919 out about being the same person back in March or so at the real long Jonathan Turley blog about dicta. But I didn’t know he was the Kansas Birther.
I am thinking about doing a post on it, because I think Edge/KDSB is mentally and morally sick, in addition to being very stupid. But I probably won’t because I think you ought to respect people’s online privacy, unless they come out and admit their online personna. Like Tracy Fair.
I have already done two more articles on the Kansas stuff because things are popping so fast on it.

Wow…so Montgomery is KDSB… I was wondering when that particular poster was going to finally get off their duff and put their mouth to the test in the real world.
After all, for any Birther who proclaims “Constitutional Crisis” on these issues, they had better be willing to put their ideas to the test, instead of just whine from the safety of internet fantasy land.
