Consider Lew's Rule of Demographics:

Take any demographic group: the Young, the Old, White, Black, Conservative, Liberal, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Atheists, Left-Handed People, Coin Collectors, Bloggers, whatever...

A good one in five are horrible, horrible people.

As if that weren't bad enough, it tends to be this 20% of the group in question that the other groups think of when forming an opinion of that particular group... largely because they are the loudest, craziest, most controversial, etc.

At least since JFK (that's nearly as far back as I remember) there has been about 25% of the voting population that is RW and bats**t crazy.

I settle on this number because I read somewhere that President Kennedy remarked that a quarter of the population was bonkers.

So, all the birthers have done is reinforce the already converted. Even if there are a few low information types that hear the birther message and wonder, it is not important to them compared to other issues.

Birthers are losers; either dupes or grifters fleecing an ever decreasing flock. I see that Dean Haskins has given up trying mount a coup d'etat against Orly to take over her dupes. He probably determined that the pickings are simply to slim, even if he were to succeed.

The only reason I keep engaging them is that they are successful in enraging me with their general vileness. Don't enlighten them that they are aiding in the reelection of the President by making some people mad enough to forget about voting third party as a protest.

Hi MonkeyB:

That is one of the questions the election may answer. Even at 26% that equates to about 75 million people. That is about the same as Blacks and Hispanics combined.

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html

Trying to gauge how many Birthers there are from the number that show up at Birther events is problematic. Can you judge the number of racists in the country from the number of people who show up at KKK rallies??? I suspect not. There is a crazy factor attached to both which probably works to keep it on the down low in public.

Personally, I know plenty of people who are Birthers, and they don't go to events, or even spend a lot of time on the Internet, but they fervently believe Obama was not born here. I know hardly anybody who is a two citizen birther. My GUESS is that these type of Birthers are Internet surfers and political types.

So, in about 50 days we will see whether the issue motivates more anti-Obama votes, or more anti-Birther votes.
